SIOUX CITY, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)– The University of Jamestown had 10 players earn GPAC all-conference honors as the conference office released its postseason awards Wednesday.
Tayler Cullen (SR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) (outfield) and Tanner Shepard (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) (utility infielder) were both named to the first team.
Cullen started all 52 games for the Jimmies, leading the team in batting average (.397), home runs (15), runs batted in (61), at bats (179), hits (71), runs scored (48), and slugging percentage (.743). He also tied for the team lead in doubles with 13 and triples with 3. Among single-season UJ records, Cullen’s 15 homers and 61 RBI are both tied for fifth, and his 71 hits are tied for seventh.
Shepard appeared in 50 games, starting 49. He posted a batting average of .376 with four home runs and 35 RBI. He led the Jimmies with an on-base percentage of .479 and was second on the team in hits (59), doubles (11), and at bats (157).
Named to the second team was catcher Triston Madison (FR/Spokane, WA). Madison batted .304 with three home runs and 22 RBI, and was one of the Jimmies’ leading hitters over the final 22 games of the season, posting a .353 average with two homers and 18 runs batted in.
Honorable mention selections for UJ were second baseman Xander Orejudos (JR/Ellensburg, WA) (.276, 4 HR, 25 RBI, 13 2B, 9 SB), outfielder Isaiah Roebuck (FR/Marana, AZ) (.388, 21 R, 11 SB), designated hitter Luke Shekeryk (SR/Seattle, WA) (.288, 10 HR, 31 RBI, .631 SLG), outfielder Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND) (.324, 4 HR, 22 RBI, 45 R, 21 SB), starting pitcher Payson Mills (JR/Blackfoot, ID) (6-1 record, 62 1/3 IP, 80 K, .252 BAA), starting pitcher Trei Hough (SO/Pocatello, ID) (5-1 record, 3.30 ERA, 57 1/3 IP, 50 K), and relief pitcher Hayden Brown (JR/Buckeye, AZ) (2-1 record, 1.13 ERA, 4 SV, 16 IP, 27 K).
Three players were also recognized for their defensive excellence by being chosen for the GPAC Gold Glove Team.
Tanner Shepard (first base) posted a fielding percentage of .990 in 300 total chances. He recorded 275 putouts, had 22 assists, and committed only three errors.
Triston Madison (catcher) had a fielding percentage of .988 in 341 total chances. Madison had 293 putouts, 44 assists, four errors, and threw out 22 of 49 attempted base stealers.
Quade Peters (center field) had 100 putouts, three assists, and one error in 104 total chances for a fielding percentage of .990.
