VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The city of Valley City closed a bridge and installed a removable floodwall in anticipation of another river crest on Wednesday, May 11th. This one will be three feet lower compared to the May 1st river crest of 18.09 feet recorded in Valley City.

City Administrator Gwen Crawford said as of now the National Weather Service has moved the river crest to 15.7’ for Wednesday. City crews had to close the Viking Drive Bridge again and install the removable floodwall on Viking Drive.

She said because of the time it takes to do this, unfortunately, we will not be removing the floodwall again until the Sheyenne River in Valley City is below 13.5’.

The city of Valley City record 1.6 inches of rainfall over the weekend and into early morning hours of Monday, May 9th.
