CRETE, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament got underway on Friday at Doane, and the #5 Jimmies knocked off #4 Morningside 8-1 to kick off the postseason.

Triston Madison helped Jamestown get the scoring started in the third when he lead off the inning with a double. The next batter, Quade Peters, traded spots with Madison to give the Jimmies a 1-0 lead. After a sacrifice bunt by Kendall Yackley, Peters scored on a sac fly from Xander Orejudos and Jamestown went ahead 2-0 headed into the bottom of the third.

After Payson Mills continued his dominance through four innings, UJ would open up the floodgates in the fifth by scoring six runs on seven hits and three Morningside errors. It was once again Madison who got things rolling for Jamestown with a lead-off double, and then a bases-clearing single from Orejudos, combined with a Mustang error, gave UJ a 5-0 lead. The Jimmies would still bring home three more runs in the fifth to push their advantage to 8-0. The Mustangs got their runs in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.

Mills ended up tossing six total innings in the victory for Jamestown, striking out eight Morningside hitters and allowing just two total hits. The junior threw 105 total pitches and walked two. Out of the bullpen, Cameron Multer tossed an inning and a third, striking out two and allowing one run. Ben Ray helped UJ get through the eighth inning, going just two-thirds and recording a strikeout. Noah Soltero came in during the ninth, allowing one run.

At the plate, Madison, Peters, and Orejudos all recorded two hits for the Jimmies. Orejudos led UJ with two RBIs and the dish, and four other Jimmies had RBIs.

UJ will now play the winner of #1 Doane and #8 Midland on Saturday morning. You can watch full coverage of the entire Doane pod for GPAC postseason baseball HERE.
