ST. PAUL, Minn. (USACE) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, reduced its water releases from Baldhill Dam, northeast of Valley City, North Dakota, by 800 cubic feet per second (cfs) on May 1.

Corps officials adjusted the outflow at the dam to approximately 3,700 cfs. The current operation plan for Baldhill Dam is to hold releases at that level for the near future. The reduced outflows will minimize additional flood impacts to downstream North Dakota communities to include Valley City, Fort Ransom, Lisbon and Kindred, as well as the rural transportation system within the region and the agricultural community.

The reduced outflows will cause the Lake Ashtabula pool elevation to increase. The current forecast indicates that the pool will rise to an elevation of 1,270.5 feet later this week. The current pool elevation is 1,265.6 feet. Corps officials remind everyone to remain vigilant near flood waters as conditions can change with little notice.
