OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes’ baseball team fell at home to the Central Cass Squirrels 9-6 on Thursday afternoon.
Oakes got the scoring started with an RBI single from senior pitcher Howie Neustel in the first inning, but their offense would then stall for a while. The Squirrels shifted the momentum with five runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead. After another run in the fifth inning, the Tornadoes went into the bottom of the fifth inning down by six runs. The third time through the hitting order was the magic number for Oakes as the offense finally started clicking, and they were able to respond with five runs to tie the game. This was thanks to a two-RBI single from senior outfielder David Schmitz, a pinch-hit two-RBI double from Michael Iverson, and infielder Fletcher Willprecht scoring on an error. However, Central Cass was able to respond with three more runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.
The Tornadoes fall to 2-2 on the regular season and will have a chance to get back right at Enderlin next Tuesday.
