ABERDEEN, S.D.– Kat Miska (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) pitched a three-hitter to help the University of Jamestown softball team defeat Doane (Neb.) University 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB) and Katie Reisdorfer (SR/Fresno, Calif.) each drove in runs as the Jimmies took a 2-0 lead after one inning. The Tigers scored an unearned run in the top of the second to cut the lead to one, but a Steph Cota (JR/Tucson, Ariz.) single brought home pinch-runner Jayda Neiles (FR/Winnipeg, MB) in the fourth inning to make it a 3-1 game.
After Doane’s lone run in the second, Miska allowed just two hits over the final five innings. She struck out six and walked just one in improving her season record to 9-6.
Reisdorfer finished with two hits while LaLa Romero (FR/Surprise, Ariz.) and Sunny Halsey (FR/Honolulu, Hawaii) joined Cota and Neiles with hits.
Doane came back in game two with a 5-1 win to split the doubleheader. The Tigers led 1-0 after one, 3-0 after two, and 4-0 after three.
Jamestown’s first hit came in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff double by Katie Reisdorfer. Doane tacked on another run in the fifth to lead 5-0. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Jimmies got on the board as Gentrey Turin (SO/Sandy, Ore.) singled in Steph Cota, who had doubled to left one batter earlier.
Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.) went two-plus innings before Hailey Schaefer (FR/Valley City, N.D.) came on in relief. Schaefer allowed an unearned run on six hits over the final five innings, striking out six and walking two.
Jamestown (19-21 overall, 6-10 GPAC) hosts Mount Marty (S.D.) on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
