(NDAgConnection.com) – Planting has yet to begin in top corn- and soybean-producing states, according to Monday’s Crop Progress Report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The lag in 18 selected states amounts to 2 percentage points (4% of the crop planted vs. a 6% average), but the delay grows particularly significant in Illinois, where 6% of the corn crop is usually in the ground by this point in the season.

Cool, wet weather is making it difficult to get started.

Winter wheat quality, meanwhile, did not get any better this past week and indeed got worse, with just 30% of the crop in 18 selected states rated good or excellent.

This compares to a 32% good/excellent rating the week before.
