SIOUX CITY, Iowa– The University of Jamestown baseball team lost a pair of games Monday in GPAC action, falling 4-2 and 7-3 against Briar Cliff University.
Jamestown fell behind 4-0 after the Chargers scored twice in the bottom of the first and two more times in the fourth.
The Jimmies rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Isaiah Roebuck (FR/Marana, AZ) and Andrew Kupec (SO/Peoria, AZ) both singled, then a Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND) single moved Kupec to third, while Roebuck scored on an error by the shortstop and Peters advanced to second. After a pitching change, Kendall Yackley (JR/Lynnwood, WA) grounded out to third, scoring Kupec.
Peters went 2-for-3 while Yackley and Tayler Cullen (SR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) also had hits.
In game two, Briar Cliff jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and took a 7-3 win to finish the sweep.
Tayler Cullen led off the second with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Julian Sansores (SO/Bellflower, CA) hit a sacrifice fly to score Cullen with UJ’s first run. After Briar Cliff scored another run in the bottom of the second, Jamestown countered with a run of their own in the third. Tanner Shepard (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) singled with two outs and moved to second on a single by Trent Peters (SO/Niverville, MB, Canada). Cullen singled through the left side to score Shepard, making it 6-2.
The Chargers added a single run in the fourth for a 7-2 lead, and the scored stayed that way until the top of the seventh. With two outs, Sansores singled and moved to second after a walk to Isaiah Roebuck. Triston Madison (FR/Spokane, WA) singled to right field, loading the bases. Briar Cliff made a pitching change, and Quade Peters drew a walk to force home Sansores. However, the Jimmies were unable to continue the rally and the game ended 7-3.
Madison was 3-for-4 while Sansores and Cullen each had two hits.
