Deputy Auditor Jay Sveum addresses the Jamestown Finance & Legal COmmittee Tuesday, April 19th, 2022.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has been dealing with hiring issues like much of the country.
In 2021, the city approved to hire for a city planner/GIS Coordinator and create the position in 2022. Deputy Auditor Jay Sveum says they went through the hiring process in November and again in February.
Sveum says in discussions with the hiring panel, it was determined that they would need to look at options. This includes dropping the “city planner” portion of the job and focusing strictly on hiring a GIS Coordinator.
The GIS Coordinator, or Geographic Information System Coordinator, would be responsible for assisting in planning and zoning related items, coordinator, and organization presentation information, and more.
City Assessor Jamieson Veil explained partially what a GIS Coordinator would be responsible for in the city.
He added it would ultimately give the city staff another tool to work more efficiently on multiple levels.
The Jamestown Finance & Legal gave approval to reformat their job description to focus on just hiring a GIS Coordinator.
In other committee business, the Building, Planning, and Zoning Committee approved the preliminary/final plat of Otter Tail Power Addition on property located on 3rd St. SE boarding Jamestown Hillcrest Golf Course.
