WASHINGTON – Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) joined a letter led by Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN) along with 95 colleagues to President Biden urging action on rising fertilizer prices.
ND Congressman Armstrong in a statement says, “I hear concerns from agriculture producers in North Dakota nearly every day about rising fertilizer prices. I urge President Biden and his administration to take immediate actions that will help lower fertilizer costs, secure our supply chain, and allow our farmers to continue to feed and fuel the world,” said Congressman Armstrong.
“Skyrocketing and unprecedented input prices are robbing our farmers of their livelihoods, and even today’s high commodity prices simply can’t keep pace,” said Congressman Emmer. “President Biden owes it to our ag community to ensure fertilizer is accessible and affordable.”
The members encouraged President Biden’s administration to review all available options to lower the cost of fertilizer, including but not limited to:
1. Eliminating the cross-border vaccine mandate for transporters of essential commerce.
2. Urging the USDA to use its existing authorities under the food supply chain and pandemic response resources to provide support for farmers facing financial difficulties.
3. Ensuring agricultural minerals like phosphate and potash are part of the Department of the Interior’s crucial mission.
4. Increasing U.S. gas production and Approving pending export permits at the Department of Energy for liquefied natural gas.
