JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team went 1-1 against the College of Saint Mary on Saturday to open up the 2022 season at Trapper Field.

GAME ONE: JAMESTOWN 5, SAINT MARY 3

The Flames kicked off the doubleheader by scoring three immediate runs through the first three batters of the game, but Jamestown clawed back to snap Saint Mary’s three game win streak. The Jimmies put up two runs in the first, and then Katie Reisdorfer hit a solo home run, her third of the season, to tie the game at 3 in the fourth. In the fifth, Jamestown scored two more runs off of RBIs from Katie Merchant and Megan Neiles.

Kat Miska went all seven innings in the circle, picking up her ninth win of the year. Miska recorded 11 strikeouts, getting her 54th career victory which is third-most all-time in UJ history. Ally Battistoni and Santina Zito went 2-for-3 and both scored twice. Merchant drove in two runs, Neiles had an RBI, and Gracie Fischer went 1-for-3 with a run driven in.

GAME TWO: SAINT MARY 6, JAMESTOWN 4

The long ball played a major factor in game two for the Flames as the College of Saint Mary hit three home runs to split the doubleheader. It was the first victory for the College of Saint Mary ever against Jamestown. The Jimmies left eight runners on base in game two. Battistoni and Neiles each had two hits, with both of Neiles’ hits being doubles. Merchant was handed the loss in game two, dropping to 5-7 on the year.

UJ returns to play next Friday when they travel to Concordia (NE) for a doubleheader. The Jimmies will also being at Midland next weekend on Saturday, before returning home the 15th of April to face Mount Marty. Jamestown is now 16-14 on the season with a 3-3 GPAC record.
