JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In January this year, the Jamestown City Sanitation Department postponed all residential garbage and recycling pickup until further notice.

Sanitation Foreman Shawn O’Neill says they make that decision based on a number of different reasons.

O’Niell says the trucks need more room and snow limits their operation, causing trucks and drivers to get stuck and preventing them from completing their pick-up routes.

He added they are currently exploring the return of alley pick-up, but are discussing a few different factors.

O’Niell says they’re waiting for more potential moisture to draw frost from the ground before they blade the alleys.

He estimates they could be back in alleys if conditions are favorable enough sometime this April. The city will make the announcement when the decision is made.

O’Niell also reminds residents of their walk-up collection service, which may help those who originally have their garbage picked-up in the alley.

Those interested in that service can contact Jamestown City Hall at (701)-252-5900.
