FROM JAMESTOWN ATHLETICS

AMES, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)– Backed by Tate Olson (SR/Cook, Minn.)’s 1-under 70, the University of Jamestown men’s golf team is in first place after Monday’s opening round of the Jimmie Spring Swing, which is being played at the Ames Golf & Country Club.

Olson was one of two players to finish under par Monday, along with Lukas Justesen of Alexandria Tech.

The Jimmies finished at 18-over 302, five shots ahead of Alexandria Tech and eight shots ahead of Hastings (Neb.) College.

Tomas Garcia (FR/Vigo, Spain) shot a 3-over 74 and is in fifth place, with Gehrig Geiss (FR/Glen Ullin, N.D.), Max Noffsinger (FR/Ft. Collins, Colo.), and Jackson Worner (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) all tied for 11th at 8-over 79.

“We played in less than ideal conditions today, but I’m pleased with how our men played today,” said UJ head coach Zach Hale. “I think our practice round on Sunday proved to be beneficial to get acclimated with the course along with the temperatures.

“Tomorrow’s weather conditions could prove to be a test again with high winds and cold temps forecasted, but it’s not anything we haven’t experienced before.”

Playing as individuals, Treyton Forsman (SR/Lewiston, Idaho) is tied for seventh at 5-over 76, Benjamin Schaefer (SO/New Rockford, N.D.) is tied for ninth at 7-over 78, and Carter Wells (JR/Huron, S.D.) is tied for 22nd at 11-over 82.

Tuesday’s final round will begin at 11 a.m.
