FROM JAMESTOWN ATHLETICS

AMES, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)– The University of Jamestown women’s golf team is in second place after the first round of the Jimmie Spring Swing, which was played Monday at Ames Golf & Country Club.

RESULTS

The Jimmies finished with a team score of 75-over 359, 23 shots in back of leader University of Sioux Falls, and seven shots ahead of Bemidji State University and Des Moines Area Community College.

“We played in less than ideal conditions today, but I’m pleased with how consistent our scores were across the board for our women,” said UJ head coach Zach Hale. “The back nine proved to be a tough finish and we left a few out there. But we will learn from it and be better because of it. I think our practice round on Sunday proved to be beneficial to get acclimated with the course along with the temperatures.

“Tomorrow’s weather conditions could prove to be a test again with high winds and cold temps forecasted, but it’s not anything we haven’t experienced before. We just have to BELIEVE and we will ACHIEVE.”

Jayme Carlson (JR/Hartford, S.D.) turned in the top score for Jamestown, tying for sixth at 16-over 87. Coley Olson (SO/Cook, Minn.) and Izzy Marchino (SR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) are tied for 11th at 19-over 90, Kyra Vogel (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) is tied for 17th at 21-over 92, and Faith Justesen (SO/Hawley, Minn.) is tied for 19th at 22-over 93.

Playing as individuals, Haley Malone (JR/Moorhead, Minn.) is tied for 11th at 19-over 90, while Olivia Wallace (SR/Park Rapids, Minn.) and Teagan Fee (JR/Havre, Mont.) are both tied for 27th at 24-over 95.

The tournament concludes Tuesday at 11 a.m.
