(NewsDakota.com) – Abbey Thornton brings home a state championship on the vault at the level 9 USAG state gymnastics meet with a score of 9.525. Thornton finished 3rd in the all-around with a 34.375.

Thornton started off a little rough on bars scoring an 8 even. She rebound nicely on the floor event scoring a 8.7 and finished the night off with a 8.15 on beam with one fall. “My goal was just to connect my series on beam and qualify for the region meet in Minneapolis” Thornton said.

Next, Thornton will take her skills to the regional meet in Minneapolis where she will compete against other level 9 gymnasts from ND, SD, MN, WI, NE, IA, and MO. The meet will take place April 22nd-24th.
