Don Gordon McDougall, 86, Valley City, North Dakota formerly Sheldon, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2022 at SMP Heath – St. Raphael, Valley City surrounded by his family under the care of CHI Hospice.

Don Gordon McDougall was born April 5, 1935 to Gordon and Juliet (Walberg) McDougall in Sheldon, North Dakota.  He attended and graduated from Sheldon High School.  He then began farming with his father.

On November 12, 1955 Don married his high school sweetheart Joyce Peterson at United Methodist Church in Sheldon.   Together they farmed the family homestead and had livestock and pigs until their retirement in 1993.  Don and Joyce traveled the world together including Germany and Alaska.  They spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona and have a lifetime of memories with their family at Long Lake near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Don was very talented with his woodworking and metal working.  He was a member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge in Sheldon, then the Shiloh Masonic Lodge and the El Zagal Shriners in Fargo, North Dakota.  Don served on the Sheldon School Board and Sheldon Elevator Board.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years Joyce, Valley City; his children, Darrin (Cindy) McDougall, Blackfoot, Idaho, Kelly (Michael) Johnson, Fargo and Alison (Brad) Rutten, Rice, Minnesota; grandchildren, Logan (Lisa) McDougall, Ashley (Eric) Grubaugh, Chris Gregor, Katie Gregor, Craig Gregor, Austin Rutten, Lauren Rutten and six great grandchildren.   He is also survived by his sister Sharon (Gene) Goad, Sun City, Florida.

Don’s funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Monday, March 28 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel with visitation held from 12:00 – 2:00 pm the same day.  Burial will be in Sheldon Cemetery.
