VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSU) – Valley City State University announced the promotion of two campus leaders. Dr. Erin Klingenberg was appointed as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Cory Anderson has been selected as the permanent Executive Director for University Advancement. Klingenberg and Anderson have long, successful careers with VCSU.

Klingenberg has worked at VCSU since 1990. She has served as the director of counseling services for the past 30 years. Her higher education experience has also included time as a faculty member in health and physical education (HPE) and psychology, along with various responsibilities in Title IX, athletics, student activities, retention and human resources. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and History Education and Coaching from Jamestown College, a Master of Education from UND in Health and Physical Education, a Master of Education from NDSU in Counseling and a Ph.D. from NDSU in Human Development: Counselor Education and Supervision.

“Dr. Klingenberg’s experience and approach has been key in helping students succeed. She is a tireless advocate for students. We are grateful for her commitment and excited to work with her in this leadership position,” said President Alan LaFave. “For the past year, Dr. Klingenberg has served as the Interim Dean for Student Affairs. She has demonstrated outstanding dedication to providing an enjoyable, exciting, safe, and healthy environment for our students to live and learn.”

Anderson, ‘89, has served in several capacities at VCSU for almost 20 years. During his first stint at VCSU, Anderson was the head baseball and assistant football coach with additional responsibilities in enrollment services, sports information and athletic administration. Anderson returned to VCSU as the director of development in 2020 and assumed the interim duties of executive director for university advancement starting July 2021. Anderson brings more than 30 years of diverse experience in coaching, higher education, the private sector and non-profit administration.

This is an important time to stay connected with all VCSU alumni and Cory’s strong leadership will build on the strong foundations already in place,” said LaFave. “Cory’s vision for engaged alumni and successful initiatives is inspiring. He brings a passion for VCSU that is unmatched.”
