CRETE, Neb.– The University of Jamestown baseball team lost a pair of one-run games Sunday afternoon at Doane University, 2-1 and 5-4.

The Jimmies (11-14, 0-4 GPAC) will play a doubleheader at Mount Marty (S.D.) University on Saturday.

UJ and Doane were scoreless through the top of the sixth in game one, before the Tigers broke through for a pair of runs. Lucas White and Nate Mensik drove in runs to put the home team ahead by two.

With two outs in the top of the seventh and a runner on first, Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND) singled and Andrew Kupec (SO/Peoria, AZ) walked to load the bases. Xander Orejudos (JR/Ellensburg, WA) singled to right, scoring pinch-runner Reece McKenzie (FR/Gresham, OR), but Peters was thrown out at home by the right fielder trying to score the tying run.

Kupec and Tanner Shepard (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) joined Orejudos and Peters with hits. Trei Hough (SO/Pocatello, ID) went five innings and allowed one run on two hits, striking out four and walking four, but did not factor in the decision.

Jamestown trailed 3-0 going into the top of the fourth but got on the board with a single by Julian Sansores (SO/Bellflower, CA). Doane answered with a run in the bottom half to retake a three-run lead.

UJ rallied in the fifth to tie the game, scoring three runs on three hits. Xander Orejudos doubled home Hayden Brown (JR/Buckeye, AZ) for the first run, then pinch-hitter Ryan Muizelaar (FR/Grand Forks, ND) followed with a double of his own, scoring Isaiah Roebuck (FR/Marana, AZ) and Orejudos.

The score stayed tied at 4 until the bottom of the ninth. Brett Meyer led off the inning for Doane with a bunt single, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Theiler. Joe Osborn singled to left, and Meyer came home with the winning run.

Julian Sansores and Triston Madison (FR/Spokane, WA) also had hits for the Jimmies. Kendall Yackley (JR/Lynnwood, WA) started on the mound and struck out seven through four innings while giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits.
