KANSAS CITY, MO. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball teams season came to a close on Friday night as the Jimmies fell 67-56 to #6 Talladega at the NAIA National Tournament.
It was a defensive slugfest throughout the first 20 minutes of play as Jamestown jumped out to a 7-0 start before Dega hit a three to go into the half up 26-25. In the second half, Jamestown was held to just 15 points through the first 15 minutes, falling behind Dega by 11 points down the stretch before the Tornadoes iced the game with free throws.
The Jimmies were led in scoring by the 2x GPAC Player of the Year Mason Walters who had 17 points and seven rebounds. Will Cordes played all 40 minutes for Jamestown, finishing as the only other player to hit double figures with 11. Devon Schultz helped Jamestown off the bench with nine points and eight rebounds, as well as four blocks.
UJ shot 37% from the field but went just 4-21 from long range and 8-16 at the charity stripe. Dega’s Cam Potts ended as the leading scorer with 21 points and five rebounds while also dishing out five assists. Marc Kjos led all players with seven assists on the evening.
Jamestown finishes its season with a 26-10 overall record, ending its season in Kansas City for the third time in the last four seasons. Schultz, Brady Birch, and Logan Pratt will all graduate for the Jimmies during the spring semester.
