JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – The sixth-ranked University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team defeated Dordt (Iowa) University in three sets Monday night at Harold Newman Arena, winning 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16.
The win improved the Jimmies’ record to 17-5 overall and 10-0 in the GPAC. Dordt falls to 9-7 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
UJ recognized seven seniors in a postgame ceremony, its largest group of seniors in the program’s short history. Prior to the festivities, Jamestown took care of business and remained undefeated at home (16-0) since starting play in 2020.
Samuel Jackman (JR/St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba) powered home 16 kills and hit .591 in the match while Zack Meyer (SR/Wheaton, Ill.) hit .385 with 12 kills to lead the Jimmie offense. The two hitters combined to commit just five errors on 48 attempts.
Dordt led 11-10 in the first set but kills by Jackman and Korben Phillips (FR/Western, Australia) and a pair from Meyer put the Jimmies ahead for good. The Defenders closed within 22-19, and it was two kills by Jackman and a Dordt attack error that clinched set one for Jamestown.
UJ never trailed in set two and held off a Defender rally midway through the set. After the Jimmies took a 16-12 lead on a kill by Meyer, Dordt won three straight points to get within one. Jamestown responded with nine of the final 11 points to take a 2-0 match lead.
In the final set, Dordt stayed close early on, but UJ went on an 8-3 run to widen the gap. Jamestown hit .258 in the last frame compared to the Defenders’ .000.
Tanner Woods (SO/Huntington Beach, Calif.) added eight kills and Phillips five as Jamestown hit .315 for the match. Caylor Cox (SO/Helena, Mont.) had 38 assists and five digs. Jackman led the defense with nine digs while Meyer, Woods, and Braden Neumann (SR/Costa Mesa, Calif.) all had six. Austin Jacob (SO/Houston, Texas) recorded four total blocks.
Jamestown will be the top seed for the GPAC Postseason Tournament, which begins with the play-in games on March 26. The final bracket and schedule will be posted later this week.
