HELENA, MT. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team punched its ticket to Kansas City and the Round of 16 for the second consecutive year as the Jimmies took down host Carroll College, 73-66.

Devon Schultz performance on the offensive glass during the first half helped Jamestown out to a 33-25 lead at the break. Schultz poured in 11 points and had eight rebounds in just nine minutes played, including five offensive boards. The Jimmies went into halftime with 14 offensive rebounds compared to just eight total rebounds for Carroll.

In the second half, the Jimmies saw their lead slip away as the Fighting Saints climbed in front by as many as seven points. With under 14 minutes to go, Coach Danny Neville told his side to keep fighting, and it paid off in a big way. Mason Walters, who was held scoreless in the first half, got rolling, scoring 13 points. Will Cordes found his outside shot, and along with Marc Kjos, helped Jamestown regain the lead and put away the Saints in their home gymnasium.

Cordes led the Jimmies in scoring with 16 points, hitting his final three three-pointers of the night. Walters had a double-double, putting up 13 points and 14 rebounds. With those 14 rebounds, Walters moved into first place all-time in UJ history in terms of career rebounds with 910. Head Coach Danny Neville earned his 150th career win, and he is the fastest Jimmie men’s coach to reach that total.

Schultz also finished with a double-double, ending with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kjos scored 12 points and dished out six assists. As a team, the Jimmies shot 44% from the floor and were +20 in total rebounds.

Jamestown, now 26-9 on the year, is headed back to Kansas City for the Round of 16 in the NAIA National Tournament. The Jimmies will take on #2 seeded Talladega, and tipoff is set for Friday at 5:00 PM.
