JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – Allie Baudhuin (JR/Coppell, Texas) and Sierra Talmadge (SR/Bismarck, N.D.) are still in the hunt for All-American honors as the first day of the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Invitational concluded at Harold Newman Arena.

Baudhuin, the 11th seed at 130 pounds, defeated Jaden South of Corban (Ore.) by 10-0 tech fall in her first match, then upset sixth-seed Katlyn Pizzo of Campbellsville (Ky.) also by 10-0 tech fall. In the semifinals, Baudhuin was pinned by third-seeded Andrea Schlabach of Grand View (Iowa). In the consolation bracket, Baudhuin stayed alive with an 11-0 tech fall over Jo-Ellen Hutto of St. Andrews.

Talmadge, seeded second at 170 pounds, was an 11-0 tech fall winner over MayLee Edwards of William Penn in her opening bout, then lost 12-1 to Chamira Cooper of University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Talmadge came back with a 9-2 decision over 12th-seed Jasmin Ballesteros of Midland (Neb.), and will face third seed Brittyn Corbishley of Texas Wesleyan in the consolation round of four.

At 116 pounds, tenth-seed Arianna Marrufo (JR/Dos Palos, Calif.) won her first two matches to advance to the quarterfinals, but was pinned by second seed Salyna Shotwell of Life (Ga.), then lost to Kendall Martin of Corban (Ore.) in the second consolation round of eight.

Kelly LaCost (SO/Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), the tenth-seed at 191, advanced to the round of 16 but lost in her bid to reach the quarterfinals. She pinned both of her opponents in the consolation bracket to advance to the second round of eight, and was pinned by fourth seed Lilliana Vergara of Campbellsville.

The Jimmies are in 15th place out of 35 teams after the first day with 44 team points.
