On the morning of July 26th, 2021, North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Jon Skalicky responded to a call of a DUI suspect at the Oriska, N.D. Rest Area. Once Skalicky arrived to question Leavy she attempted to drive away in reverse with Skalicky partially in the vehicle trying to stop the car. She then fought with the Skalicky and tried to disarm him, during the struggle two citizens and Valley City Police Officer Jason Runge helped Skalicky.

Officer Jason Runge (Run-gee), Bryan Bridgeford of West Fargo, N.D. and Roy Del Ozo of Lawton, O.K. were recognized for their efforts in helping Skalicky arrest Leavy.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind said Bryan Bridgeford called law enforcement and stayed to help Trooper Skalicky who suffered a fractured foot during the incident. He recovered and is back on duty.
