JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Arts Center has introduced their newest exhibit.

“From Here to Here” is a culminated creation by Matthew Anderson & Michael Conlan. The free exhibit runs through April 16.

“The landscape and concept of place are the foundation that both artists respond to,” The Arts Center explains. “Conlan works in a reductive manner which strips the idea of the landscape down to its basic formal elements, almost to the point of the non-objective yet still conceptually rooted in the landscape. Anderson uses an additive approach to investigate his local landscape, he utilizes an intuitive process of mark-marking and responds to both the land and the work in front of him.”

The concept of this exhibition extends beyond the proposed works on paper and the landscape, it extends into the artist’s conversions about the idea of place, art making and about what art is.

Matthew Anderson is from the small rural town of Gackle, ND. He received his BA from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, and his MFA from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He has exhibited his works nationally and internationally and is a part of public and private collections.

Michael Conlan, originally from Williston, ND, received his BFA from Portland State University, Portland Oregon and his MFA at the University of North Dakota. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally and his work is included in both private and public collections. The artist recently returned home to North Dakota to raise his family and to have greater access to the landscape that inspires his work.

Admission to The Arts Center gallery is free and open to the public.

Gallery hours are: Monday – Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm.
