TUCSON, Ariz. (jimmiepride.com)– Rafael Cortez (SO/Anaheim, CA) struck out seven batters in 4 2/3 innings of work, and the University of Jamestown baseball team got back in the win column with a 4-2 win over Park-Gilbert University Tuesday.

Cortez, Cameron Jenkins (SR/West Richland, WA), and Eric Kessler (FR/Dallas, OR) combined for 7 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just four hits while striking out nine batters. Kessler worked the ninth for his third save.

Jamestown trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the second, but retook the lead. Luke Shekeryk (SR/Seattle, WA) reached on an error to lead off the inning, then moved to third after Tayler Cullen (SR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) doubled. Kendall Yackley (JR/Lynnwood, WA) reached on an error, scoring Shekeryk and moving Cullen to third. Hayden Brown (JR/Buckeye, AZ) walked to load the bases, then with one out, Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND) reached on a fielder’s choice to score Cullen. Peters was caught stealing second base but Yackley was able to score before the final out, making it 3-2.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Xander Orejudos (JR/Ellensburg, WA) singled, then came home on a double by Tanner Shepard (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) to make it 4-2. The score held there for the final six innings.

Cullen went 2-for-3 and five other Jimmies recorded a hit.
