JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser informed the Stutsman County Commission Tuesday that the need for a building for multi-use will need to be done sooner rather than later.

Currently, the Sheriff’s Office rents a portion of the National Guard Building. With more equipment being added, this means the department is slowly being pushed out.

Sheriff Kaiser says the building could be fully funded with American Rescue Plan Spending (ARPA) funds as it falls under emergency services.

He provided a preliminary cost estimate for a proposed 6,520 square foot building that would include heated space for vehicles, dispatch if it needed to move, and housing for inmates for transport if the correction center needed a backup.

At this time, the location is being explored, but nothing has been decided.

Sheriff Kaiser says preliminary costs are “high estimates” right now.

The commission encouraged Sheriff Kaiser to continue exploring options to bring back. No final decision was made.
