JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The JHS Speech team continues to strive with a meet at St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck on February 12.

The team competed against 3 class A schools and 7 class B schools taking home 26 awards with 2 state qualifiers: Olivia Schriock in poetry interpretation and Haley Mathias in extemporaneous speaking.  Individual results include:

Dramatic Interpretation – Ross Motter 2nd, Emma Wiley 5th 

Extemporaneous Speaking – Haley Mathias 1st (state qualifier), Will Nelson 4th, Madison Grieve 7th 

Humorous Duo – Emma Hoke and Autumn Roberts 8th 

Humorous Interpretation – Olivia Schriock 5th, Emma Hoke top novice

Impromptu Speaking – Will Nelson 3rd, Madison Grieve 6th, Peter Weinzierl 7th 

Poetry – Olivia Schriock 1st (state qualifier), Haley Mathias 8th 

Radio Broadcasting – Maddy Orr 5th 

Serious Duo – Anja McDermid and Daniel Nyland 5th 

Serious Prose – Ross Motter 2nd, Anja McDermid 3rd

The team traveled to Fargo South High School on February 19 to compete against 11 class A and B schools.  The team brought home 17 awards, including one state qualifier – Ross Motter in serious prose.  Individual results include:

Dramatic Interpretation – Ross Motter 6th, Emma Wiley 8th 

Extemporaneous Programmed Reading – CeCe Maulding 3rd, Ross Motter 6th 

Humorous Duo – Emma Wiley and Maddy Orr 4th

The last meet in February was on the 26th at Mandan High School. JHS competed against 26 class A and B schools and finished with 9 state qualifiers: Madison Grieve with both impromptu and extemporaneous speaking, Maddy Orr in radio broadcasting, Emma Wiley in dramatic, Ross Motter in humorous, Anja McDermid in serious prose, Anja McDermid and Daniel Nyland in serious duo, Matthew Motschenbacher in speech to persuade, and Emma Hoke in humorous. Individual results include:

Dramatic Interpretation – Emma Wiley 2nd (state qualifier), Ross Motter 4th, Trinity Cross 5th

The team travels to Carrington on March 5 and then has a home tournament at JHS on March 26, before the WDA tournament and state in April.  The team is coached by Laura Weis, Chantel Harr, Brittney Carpenter, and Gabi Oberg.
