SEWARD, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team saw its first half lead slip away as the Jimmies fell in the GPAC Championship game 77-70 to Concordia (NE).
Jamestown and Concordia went back-and-forth throughout the first half of play as the Jimmies leaned heavily on their inside post presence, taking a 45-40 lead into the halftime break. Concordia was led in scoring during the first 20 minutes by Noah Schutte who had 15, and Mason Walters was the leading scorer for the Jimmies with 14 points. Devon Schultz also had eight points off the bench during the first half at Concordia.
In the second half, Concordia regained the lead, going up by six points with less than seven minutes to go. In the final seven minutes, Will Cordes took over on offense, willing Jamestown to within two points with less than four remaining. However, the Bulldogs extended their lead back to six points and the Jimmies never were able to recover as Concordia improved to 16-0 at home on the year.
Walters finished as the leading scorer in the game, putting up 25 points and 10 rebounds for his 20th double-double of the year. Cordes ended the night with 14 points, including 10 in the second half. Marc Kjos had 10 points for the Jimmies. Concordia ended the night shooting 58% from the field and 40% from deep.
Jamestown (24-9) will now wait to see if they get an at-large bid into the NAIA National Tournament. The selection show is on Thursday at 7:00 PM, and you can watch it live on the NAIA Facebook Page.
