VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners girls basketball team had to travel to Wahpeton for their play-in game to keep their season alive. These 2 teams had met twice in the regular season, the most recent just 11 day ago in Wahpeton. The Huskies were victorious in both games. With this game essentially being a playoff game, the benefit for the Hi-Liners is that when playoffs come around, everyone starts with the same 0-0 record. Valley City fought hard until the end, as the Huskies come away with the home playoff win 75-67, to end the Hi-Liners season.
The first half saw both teams exchange lead changes. Hi-Liners scored first and then the Huskies would answer. The largest lead of the first half was 12-points and that was for the Huskies thanks in large part to Scout Woods. Hi-Liners would not go quietly, as they would battle back in the first half and trail at halftime by only 5-points, 36-31.
In the second half, Wahpeton would do a good job of keeping the Hi-Liners a good distance back on the scoreboard. Once again it was Scout Woods for the Huskies who would dictate the play, she finished with 30-points and 13 rebounds. Valley City would not go away quietly. Brooke Eggermont had another excellent game for the Hi-Liners as she finished with a 19-points and 10 rebounds for a double double. A couple of other Hi-Liners who need to be noted for having a great game is, Tesa Olson who finished with 18-points, and Peyton Peterson, who collected a total 14 rebounds. Unfortunately for the Hi-Liners those great performances were not enough as they fall to the Huskies in Wahpeton in the play-in game 75-67, and have their season come to a close.
