Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—Top seeded Ellendale received a first round bye and will play fourth seeded Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (EKM) in the semifinals as the Rebels defeated fifth seeded Oakes 46-33 in the opening round of the District 5 tournament. LaMoure-Litchville-Marion (LLM) the second seed defeated seventh seeded Barnes County North (BCN) 60-30. The Loboes will play Griggs County-Midkota (GCM) in the other semifinal as the Titans defeated Carrington 58-55. Oakes will advance to the Region 3 qualifying game on Tuesday at 4:30 P.M. BCN will play Carrington at 4:30 on Monday in an elimination game.

The Oakes Tornadoes led 21-19 at halftime but couldn’t stop the Rebels in the second half getting outscored 27-12 in the final 16 minutes. Adam Nitschke had a game high 18 points to lead all scorers for the Rebels. Jacob Nitschke added 17 points and Dalton Madcke had a game high 7 rebounds for EKM. Oakes was paced by Trey Skoglund with 10 points and 8 points from Joseph Heim. The Tornadoes dropped to 8-12 overall and will play either GCM or LLM (semifinal loser) on Tuesday at 4:30. EKM improved to 14-6 overall and will face top seeded Ellendale at 6:00 on Monday night.

The Loboes cruised to a 30 point win over the BCN Bison and advanced to the semifinals to play Carrington. The Loboes were paced by Colton Ness with a game high 19 points and 12 points from Corbin Potts who also added a game high 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The Bison were paced by Casey Everson with 10 points and 8 points from Jonah Harstad with 8 points. LLM improved to 17-3 overall and BCN dropped to 2-16.

GCM  58    Carrington  55

The Titans outscored Carrington 19-7 in the final quarter and defeated the Cardinals 58-55 to advance to the semifinals on Monday night against LLM. The Titans were paced by Logan Topp with 16 points and 14 points each from Carter Spitzer and Brady Haugen. Spitzer and Haugen both knocked down 4 three pointers and Haugen led the Titans with 5 rebounds. Cardinal senior Lucas Hendrickson had a game high 24 points and 7 rebounds but it wasn’t quite enough as the Titans rallied late for the win. Hudson Topp and Hudson Schmitz added 8 points each for the Cardinals.

Day 2 of the District 5 tourney will get underway at 4:30 on Monday afternoon with Carrington battling BCN in an elimination game followed by the semifinals with Ellendale taking on EKM at 6:00 P.M. and LLM squaring off with GCM at 7:30.
