FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jays were looking to avenge yesterday’s loss to the West Fargo Sheyenne in the opening round of the state playoffs. On the table was a third match up with the Minot Magicians. These two teams splitting their first 2 games in the regular season. Jamestown would get three 3rd period goals to win 4-2 and move on to play on Saturday.

First period started off with both teams trying to get a feel for the game. Minot and Jamestown would throw big body checks and as the old hockey cliche goes, “get pucks in deep.” After a scoreless first, the second period saw a lot more action. With Gavin Gerhardt in the box for interference, Hunter Nelson picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated down the left side speeding by his defender and sniping one just under the blocker of the goaltender of Minot to give Jamestown the 1-0 lead. Just over 2 minutes later in the period, after a intentional offsides call against Jamestown, the Magicians would win the intending offensive zone draw and get a rebound goal from Caelton Eslinger to tie it up at 1-1.

Going into the third period, the Blue Jays were on the penalty kill. Two seconds after the penalty expired it was Brooks Roaldson scoring to give the Blue Jays the 2-1 lead. That lead wouldn’t last long as just 1:55 later, Ben Svangstu of Minot would pick off a breakout pass and go in on a breakaway and would go backhand top shelf over the glove of Jamestown goalie Brode Hillstrom to tie the game 2-2. On the next shift for Roaldson, he would pick up his second goal of the game and give the Blue Jays the 3-2 lead. A lead that would last for the rest of the game and would expand thanks to an empty net goal from Nolan Nenow to go up 4-2.

It was a great day for the Blue Jays penalty kill as they go 5/5 on the day, with a shorthanded goal from Nelson. Brode Hillstrom another solid performance in net for the Blue Jays as he stops 22/24 in the victory. Next up for Jamestown, they will  play on Saturday at 12pm at Farmers Union Insurance Center in Fargo. The game can be heard on 103.1 The Raven, streamed on NewsDakota.com, or on The Raven app.
