FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #7 seed Jamestown girls hockey team played tough with the #2 Bismarck Blizzard on Thursday night, but Bismarck had just enough offense to get past the Jays, 6-3.

Jamestown jumped in front four minutes into the first period when a defensive zone turnover by the Blizzard hopped onto Bernadette Belzer’s stick, which she deposited in the back of the net for her 16th goal of the season. Bismarck would respond with three consecutive goals to go in front of the Jays 3-1 in the middle of the second period.

In the second, Jamestown capitalized on a power play as Alexis Kirkeby scored her 26th of the year with the player advantage to bring the Jays within one. Less than three minutes later, Kirkeby connected with Arya Mickelson to even the game at 3 with six minutes remaining. Later in the second though, Blizzard captain Madison Cole scored an even-strength goal to put Bismarck up for good.

Jamestown sees its chances at a state title come to a close, but will still have the opportunity to play for 5th place. The Jays will be back at the Farmers Union Insurance Center Friday night at 7:15 pm to play in the consolation semifinals, and full coverage of the game can be heard on 103.1 The Raven, online at newsdakota.com, or on The Raven app.
