Betty J. Smith, 91, long time resident of Jamestown, ND passed away on February 23, 2022 at the Mille Lacs Long Term Health Care Facility in Onamia, MN, where she had been a resident since October, 2021.
Betty was born in Dickinson, ND on November 24, 1930, the sixth of thirteen children of Carl and Rose (Hoffer) Stradinger. She grew up in Dickinson where she met and married Roger Smith on October 24, 1953. As a young couple, Betty and Roger lived in Medora, New Rockford, Hebron, Hazen and Golden Valley, before settling in Jamestown in 1959.
Betty worked for Montgomery Wards for many years. She was also employed by the White Drug Company, the VFW, and Progress Enterprises. Betty was an active member of the VFW, holding several offices and traveled to state “meets”.
Betty enjoyed bowling, baking for others and knitting beautiful sweaters for friends and family. She loved to spend her Wednesday nights and Saturdays playing BINGO with her friends. Betty loved her family. Seeing her grandchildren, and later, great grandchildren, would light up her eyes. She always wanted to be included in activities and never lost her youthful spirit.
Betty is survived by her children, Bruce Smith, Seattle, WA; Cindy (Ivars) Wagner, Onamia, MN; Gary (Carol) Smith, Monticello, MN; and Tammy (Tom) Weber, Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Mike (Robyn) Dunn, Jessica (Ben) Bouta, Lindsay Smith, Hannah (John) Desrosiers, and Kali Weber; five great grandchildren, Brianna and Elle Dunn, Addison Rundle, Stella Desrosiers, Evelyn Christianson. She also leaves four siblings, Viola Caudle, Billings, MT; Richard (Jeanette) Stradinger, Rapid City, SD; Fred Stradinger, Boise, ID; Margie Stradinger, Mandan, ND; and brother-in-law Alex Stockert, Dickinson, ND. Betty also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, four sisters (Rose Kilzer, Evelyn Groll, June Stockert and Jeanette Sagmiller), and four brothers (Robert, Harold, Donald and Lester).

Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Eddy Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 2 at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Linda Schauer officiating. Interment will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
