VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The VCSU Men’s basketball team earned the right to host a playoff game after their successful regular season. The Vikings welcomed Dickinson State to town on Wednesday night, a team that they had just beaten in Valley City just 5 day ago. Vikings get their 3rd win of the season against the Blue Hawks 86-71 to advance to the Final Four for the NSAA playoffs that will now take place in Watertown, South Dakota on Saturday.
Vikings came out of the gate hot. With a packed home crowd they were hitting shots and playing stellar defense. One of the big scorers for VCSU came off of the bench, Jalen Addison. The senior who has been coming off of the bench since coming back from injury provided the Vikings with a team high 12-points in the first half. Addison, who would most likely be a starter for any other team in the conference, has been praised by his head coach on multiple occasions for adapting to his role of coming off of the bench. On the defensive side of things, the Vikings forced 7 turnovers in the first half, as that helped them lead at halftime 50-35.
Second half saw more great play by the Vikings. Cayden Rickard and Daevonte Munson, both finished with 11-points, both would ad buckets to stop any sort of run the Blue Hawks would try to go on. Another key piece in tonight’s win was Kevin Schramm. The senior, who prior to the game was honored for reaching 1,000 career points as a VCSU Viking finished the game with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Vikings handle Dickinson State and beat them for the third time this year, 86-71.
With the win VCSU will now play at 8PM Saturday night in Watertown, South Dakota against Bellevue in a Final Four match up with a chance to move on to Sunday to play for the NSAA championship. Both Bellevue and VCSU split their 2 games with each other with both teams winning on the road.
