BROOKINGS, N.D. (Playnorthstar.com) – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) held its indoor track & field conference meet on Feb. 20 at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of NCAA Division I South Dakota State.  The venue will also serve the upcoming 2022 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by Dakota State (S.D.).

Dickinson State (N.D.) won their fourth straight NSAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field conference title with a conference meet record of 216.5 points.  Dakota State was second for the second consecutive year with 178 points.  Vtierbo (Wis.) was third with 121.5 points, followed by Valley City State (N.D.) fourth with 100 points, and Bellevue (Neb.) fifth with 37 points.  Waldorf (Iowa) and newcomer associate member of the NSAA Iowa Wesleyan were tied for sixth with 21 points each.

The Trojans reclaimed the North Star Athletic Association men’s team title with a conference meet record points of 253 points.  The Blue Hawks were second with 206 points.  The V-Hawks were third with 88 points, while the Vikings placed fourth with 65 points.  The Warriors tallied 51 points for a fifth-place finish, while the Tigers were sixth with 23 points.  The Bruins were seventh with four points.

The postseason awards included Most Valuable Field and Athlete Performer were presented after the conclusion of the conference meet.  Coach-of-the-Year award and Champions of Character recipients from each North Star conference school were also honored.

Dane Allen of Dickinson State and Brooke Malsom of Valley City State were named to NSAA Most Valuable Field Performer.

Grace Timm of Dickinson State earned the NSAA Women’s Indoor Most Valuable Track Athlete of the Meet.  Cody Farland of Dakota State claimed the men’s most valuable track athlete honor.

DiSU Shayne Wittkopp was named to NSAA Indoor Track & Field Women’s Coach-of-the-Year.  It was the fourth straight year that Wittkopp was selected to the conference women’s coach-of-the-year award.  Anthony Drealan was selected as the NSAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach-of-the-Year.

A new postseason award was announced this year, the most valuable athlete voted by the league coaches.  VCSU’s Malsom and DaSU’s Jacia Christiansen shared the women’s award.  Farland of Dakota State was voted as the men’s most valuable athlete.

Athletes earning All-Conference recognition must be in the top three individually and two relay teams.  The complete list of the NSAA Indoor Track & Field All-Conference is listed below:
