FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On the third and final day of the State Tournament at the FargoDome it was all dual action on this Saturday. Valley City, was the 2nd ranked team in the Eastern part of North Dakota coming into the duals.
Hi-Liners got their day started off against the 3rd ranked team in the West, the Dickinson Midgets. Valley City, never had a lead in their dual with Dickinson, as the Midgets jumped out to a 7-0 lead and would do an excellent job of extending their lead to keep the Hi-Liners out of reach. Valley City would get wins in this dual from, Ethan Miller, Broden Muske, Jonah Schuldheisz, Koltyn Grebel, and Koye Grebel. Dickinson wins the dual 46-46.
In their second dual of the day, it was win or go home for the Hi-Liners. They would take on the West Fargo Packers, who were ranked 4th in the East. Things did not start off great for Valley City as the Packers jumped out to the 15-0 lead. Hi-Liners would get their first win thanks to a forfeit. From there Valley City got into a rhythm. Hi-Liners got the victory over the Pakcers 36-33. The Valley City Hi-Liners would get wins from, Tyson Hovland, Broden Muske, Jonah Schuldheisz, Tyson Klabo, Koltyn Grebel, and Koye Grebel. Hi-Liners would move on to take on the West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs.
In their third and final dual of the season the Hi-Liners were looking to claim the 5th place spot. The Mustangs would get the first two wins of the dual with pinfalls and take a 12-0 lead. Hi-Liners would rally to win the next three, all by point decisions. Wins by (Tyson Hovland, Isaiah Schuldheisz, Broden Muske) This would make it a 12-9 score in favor of West Fargo Sheyenne. Mustangs would get a pinfall win to go up 18-9. However, Jonah Schuldheisz would bring momentum back over to the Hi-Liners side with a pinfall win of his own to cut the Valley deficit to 18-15. Koltyn Grebel would follow that up with a pinfall win of his own to give the Hi-Liners their first lead at 21-18. After the Mustangs wrestled the lead back to their side, Koye Grebel would pick up a pinfall victory to put Valley City back in the lead 27-24. Mylee Christianson would follow. Mylee, who finished second in her weight class (126) on Friday night, had already had a hard fought day on the mat. She would have her match end early due to her opponent slammer her down on the mat on her head. Due to this, the Hi-Liners would extend their lead to 33-24. However, the Mustangs would get back to back pinfalls to take the lead back at 36-33. Ethan Miller would close out the season battling a tough match up in the 145 weight class. Miller would just barely be edged out in the match. With the win the mustangs win the dual 39-33 and give West Fargo Sheyenne 5th place in the State. The Valley City Hi-Liners have claimed 6th place in the state.
