JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (USDA-FSA), the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) gives landowners another tool when it comes to deciding the future of their acreage.

Austin Lang, a Precision Ag and Conservation Specialist with Pheasants Forever, says general signup for CRP runs through March 11th and has been an important tool for targeting environmentally sensitive lands with conservation practices.

Lang says Pheasants Forever advocates for the program to help with wildlife habitat, cleaner waters, healthier soils, and a more resilient climate.

Lang says many different CRP exists and the enrollment windows vary. Right now, general CRP is open through March 11th and Grassland CRP signup will run April 4th through May 13th.

He added as inputs become more expensive, CRP remains a valuable tool for landowners to consider.

Landowners are encouraged to visit their nearest USDA Service Center to learn more about CRP eligibility. You can click here to get a full map.
