FARGO, ND. (NewsDakota.com) Aden Braun and Colton Mewes of the Jamestown boys wrestling team captured individual state titles on Friday night as the Blue Jays placed second as a team during the individual meet.

Braun, a junior for the Blue Jays, defeated Victor Garcia by decision (5-1) to capture a state title at 138 pounds. Braun finishes the season with a 44-4 overall record.

Mewes, also a junior, won by major decision (10-0) over Tyler Porter of West Fargo to win the state championship at 170 pounds. Mewes only lost two matches during the entire 2022 wrestling season.

Three other Blue Jays earned second place overall finishes, including Paris Eslick of the Blue Jay girl wrestling team. Jackson Walters and Grady Anderson both fell by decision in their championship matches on Friday night, capping off incredible runs at the state tournament.

Hannah Sjostrom ended up with a victory in her third-place match at 190, winning by fall over Cassie Bartholomay of Central Cass. Preston Gall took fourth place at 182 for the Jays, and Pete Rasmussen finished fifth at 120. Dalton Darby and Malaki Robinson both placed inside the top 8 at 285, and Bo Nelson won his 7th place matchup at 220.

As a team, Jamestown put up an overall score of 149.5, good for second place overall. Bismarck High won the individual meet, scoring 186.5 points. Dickinson took third with 136 points.

The Jays now move on to the dual portion of the state tournament, competing against West Fargo Sheyenne at 10 am in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning at the FargoDome.
