JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown is home to many international students and has a variety of language courses in their educational offerings.
To celebrate, the University has held an annual International Week to encourage language learning, which is expressed in the University of Jamestown’s “Journey to Success.”
Katherine Stevenson is an Associate Professor of Foreign Language at the University of Jamestown.
Professor Stevenson says they will use International Week to celebrate the variety of language offerings and students who study at the University from February 21st through the 24th.
She says they’ll also use the week to celebrate their new Spanish faculty member Dr. Enerseto Fundora to campus. She says Wednesday will be a celebration of the Spanish language and an evening of Cuban Poetry and Music.
Dr. Fundora holds his Doctorate in Spanish from the University of Miami and is also a trained classicist, having taught Latin and Classical Greek at both high school and collegiate levels.
Other highlights of the week include Monday with a focus on learning German, Tuesday on French, and Thursday on learning Classical Languages such as Latin, Hebrew, and Ancient Greek for the 21st Century.
Professor Stevenson adds all events will serve cuisine of each culture courtesy of Sodexo Dining Services. It will also be free and open to the public.
She added they are hoping to raise awareness of the global outreach of the educational mission at the University of Jamestown.
“The Look Beyond Committee at the University of Jamestown focuses on developing global awareness on campus,” Stevenson stated. “It is an integral part of the University of Jamestown’s four-part Journey to Success.”
