SIOUX CITY, IA. (jimmiepride.com) – An 11-0 second-quarter run by the ninth-ranked Morningside University Mustangs helped put away the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team Friday night, as the Jimmies fell 80-59 in GPAC action.

Jamestown raced out to a 13-3 lead after Jailyn Martinson (FR/Devils Lake, ND) scored at the 7:32 mark, but Morningside countered with a 13-2 run of their own to take a one-point lead with 3:23 left in the first.

Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN)’s layup kept UJ close at 23-22 just 44 seconds into quarter number two. That would be the only scoring for Jamestown until Martinson sank a pair of free throws with 3:22 remaining before halftime. Morningsde outscored Jamestown 11-0 during that frame, and UJ was unable to recover.

A three-pointer by Josephson brought the Jimmies as close as 45-37 in the third. The Mustangs scored the next six and 11 of the next 15 to re-establish a double-digit lead.

Down by 16 entering the fourth, Jamestown tried to get back into the game via the three-pointer, but hit on just two of eight from beyond the arc and two of 11 overall.

Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) led the Jimmies with 16 points and nine rebounds. Madelyn Schmidt (FR/Tappen, ND) finished with 12, including four three-pointers, and Martinson was also in double digits with 11.

Jamestown, now 17-10 overall and 10-9 in the GPAC, play their final road game of the regular season Saturday at Briar Cliff University, with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
