JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier is taking time to remind everyone of the Spring Turkey application deadline quickly approaching.

The Spring Turkey Season has been set for 2022 and opens April 9 and continues through May 15. The deadline to apply however is sooner than that.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is offering 7,647 wild turkey licenses for the 2022 spring hunting season, 635 more than last year.

Leier says while checking out their website, you’re encouraged to read more about posting private land electronically for the 2022-23 hunting season at gf.nd.gov.

The 2021 state legislature passed a bill to allow electronic posting of private land, giving landowners another option for posting private property. The Game and Fish website has complete instructions for landowners, along with frequently asked questions for both landowners and hunters.

Leier also reported on the Game & Fish Department violations tallied for the 2021 year in North Dakota.

In total, game wardens made 51,100 field contacts in 2021. This number does not include public contacts at sport shows, state fair, local wildlife club meetings, school programs, hunter safety classes, and other community events.
