HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (NOYF) — A Medina couple was announced as a national winner at the 2022 National Outstanding Young Farmers Awards Congress held February 3-6 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Richie and Sarah Heinrich were one of four national winners selected for the award based on their progress in an agricultural career, extent of soil and water conservation practices, and contributions to the well-being of the community, state, and nation.

The winners of the National Outstanding Young Farmers award for 2021 and 2022 were honored at the annual NOYF Awards Congress held in Hilton Head Island, S.C., Feb. 3-6, 2022. Other winners are from Illinois, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The Heinrich’s raise cash crops and cattle on the Heinrich family farm established in 1939 by Richie’s grandparents. They have incorporated Sarah’s family cattle business into the operation, holding a joint production sale with Sarah’s parents each year to market registered bulls and bred heifers.

The NOYF program selected its first group of national winners in 1955. The program is sponsored by John Deere, administered by the Outstanding Farmers of America, and supported by the U.S. Jaycees, the National Association of Conservation Districts, and the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
