JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – With over 500 non-profit organizations participating in the annual Giving Hearts Day fundraiser, it can be difficult to choose just one.

A good place to start is with agencies that continue to serve the surrounding area.

More than 14 agencies in Jamestown are participating in the 24-hour event on February 10th, each with a matching amount raised prior and different goals and uses for their raised funds. One of these local organizations is the Freedom Resource Center. Beth Dewald is an Independent Living Advocate for the non-profit.

The ramp program has helped many with different disabilities in Southeast North Dakota and into parts of Minnesota.

Dewald says donations from Giving Hearts Day will help them with the ramp program and their continued advocacy for individuals with disabilities.

Another organization with a lofty goal is SMP Health-Ave Maria. Annie Hancock is the Development Director for the non-profit.

Hancock says their past bus was irreparable and costs were too great. Their goal of $60,000 would get them closer to meeting the needs of their residents. She added that Giving Hearts Day is a chance for non-profits to “dream big.”

Most of the participating non-profits will also be holding events at their sites that are open to the public. The James River Transit and Senior Citizen Center will also be participating in the donation event this year. Office manager Rhonda Sahr says they have a variety of raffles, live music, and events taking place in the center this year.

Their goal is to raise money to support their transit system.

Donations to these and other participating non-profits can be made at givingheartsday.org
