JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council moved to go back and dig further into a special assessment rate change for the city and residents before full approval.
Councilman Dave Steele stated staff has put in a lot of work to find a solution to special assessment on water main projects.
Steele suggested the council should explore the compensation process for individuals who have fully paid off their assessments. He recommended moving the resolution to their next committee meeting before final approval in March.
Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated this wouldn’t change the fact the city wants to get something done.
Steele added work hasn’t been easy, but believes the city is heading in the right direction.
The resolution as it stands would change the responsibility for payment of remaining special assessments due on water main replacement districts to 70% to be paid by the City and 30% by the property owner.
The council voted to move the resolution to their next committee meeting for further discussion and research.
