VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City high school had both the girls and boys basketball teams in action on this Saturday. The girls team was looking for their second consecutive win, as they had a huge win on Friday night, however they would lose their road game to Grand Forks Red River, 72-39. The boys team was looking to take the good from their loss on Friday night and try and get their first win of the season as they hosted Devils Lake, but they will still have to wait for that first win as they lose to the Firebirds 69-47

Girls: GF Red River 72 Valley City 39

The girls team, coming off a huge home win on Friday night were trying to put together their first winning streak of the season. They had to travel to Grand Forks Red River on this Saturday, as this was a make up game from January. Brooke Eggermont lead the way for Valley City with 12 points and 5 rebounds in the loss. Red River was lead by Jocelyn Schiller (19 points), and Hannah Litzinger (17 points) on this day as the two worked together to get the win over the Hi-Liners.

Boys: Devils Lake 69 Valley City 47

The Hi-Liners boys basketball team has been so close so many times this season to getting that first win, but it will still have to wait. Valley City hosted Devils Lake at the HAC and saw the Firebirds get 16 points from Drew Hofstad and 13 points from Parker Brodina on their way to the win. Hi-Liners were lead by Cal Burchill as he had 11-points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort. Hi-Liners head coach Alex Quist was on the “Coffee with the Coaches” show on Saturday morning saying that he believes that his team is right there and that he is stressing to them that they want to be playing their best basketball at the end of the season.

Next up, both Hi-Liner teams will be in action in a double header at home at the HAC on Tuesday February 8th.  Boys game will be first at 5:45PM, and the girls game is scheduled for 7:15PM. Both games can be heard on am1490/96.3FM KOVC, or streamed on NewsDakota.com, or the KOVC app.
