JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Junior Hannah DeMars became the 22nd player in UJ history to reach 1,000 points in a career on Saturday afternoon as the Jimmies clinched a GPAC postseason tournament spot with an 81-70 victory over Midland.
Jamestown dominated on the glass from start to finish in this game, outrebounding Midland by 30. The Jimmies ended the game with 21 offensive rebounds, compared to just 24 total rebounds for the Warriors. DeMars had another spectacular game, scoring 24 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in the win. Lexxiss Trygg had a nice game off the bench for Jamestown, scoring 12 points and collecting eight rebounds.
The Jimmies shot the ball well from the floor, finishing with a 42% field goal percentage to go along with a 39% mark from downtown. Jamestown was also excellent at the charity stripe, converting on 15 of 19 attempts on the day. UJ outscored Midland 34-12 in the paint and 27-17 off the bench.
With the win, the Jimmies improve their overall record to 17-9 on the season and 10-8 in the GPAC, snagging a postseason tournament spot. 17 wins are the most wins in a season for head coach Thad Sankey in his tenure with Jamestown, and UJ will have four more opportunities to grab victories in the regular season. Jamestown heads to Iowa for a weekend matchup against #8 Morningside and (RV) Briar Cliff next Friday and Saturday.
