JAMESTOWN, N.D. (UJ) – The University of Jamestown Department of Music is pleased to continue their new concert series featuring the Black-Schlossman Organ in historic Voorhees Chapel.

The second concert of the series will take place on Sunday, February 6 at 2 p.m. with a performance by Richard “Dick” Morris. The concert is open to the public with a free will offering at the door.

In this performance, Morris will play works by Mendelssohn, Myron Roberts, Paul Manz, and Charles Widor. Dr. Jason Kihle of the University of Jamestown Music Department, will be a guest for an organ and marimba duet.

Morris received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he studied organ with Dr. Myron J. Roberts. As a concert organist, he has performed in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Kansas, New York, and Oklahoma.

He has served as Minister of Music at six different churches throughout his career. As a workshop leader, he has led numerous sessions on music, religion and the arts, and handbells. He has worked with numerous churches as a consultant in the development of their total fine arts programs, choir promotion, and organ installations. Morris moved to Jamestown to be near his son, Rick and his wife, Melissa (Nething). He currently serves as organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Black-Schlossman Memorial Organ, which will be featured in the program, was built in 1999 by the Johnson Organ Company of Fargo, North Dakota. It is a gift of the late Anna Jane Schlossman and her family in memory of George Black and William Schlossman.
