ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was total domination for Oakes on Monday night in Enderlin as they beat the Eagles 71-42.
The Tornadoes spreaded the love in the first quarter with all six players who got playing time being able to find the bottom of the net. They racked up 21 points and gave up just nine to put them in a good position for the rest of the game. Oakes continued where they left off in the second quarter with great team basketball on both ends. The Tornadoes gave up just five points on the defensive end of the court to give themselves a 20-point cushion going into the break.
Oakes continued their domination in the second half, but got out to a bit of a slow start to the third quarter. However, the Tornadoes turned it on just before the end of the period with an 11-3 run. In the fourth quarter, the starters got to get some rest with the reserves finishing off the game leading them to their win.
Junior guard Laikyn Roney led the way with 21 points in just three quarters going 4-4 from the free-throw line and 1-2 from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Lily Thorpe also had a solid day on the glass getting some put-backs to finish her day with 13 points. Junior center Emma Muggli also finished with ten points.
With the win, Oakes is now 11-7 on the regular season and are 2-3 against teams in Region 1.
