JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team shot lights out from deep against the #13 Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena to grab their fifth consecutive win, defeating Northwestern 65-48.
The Jimmies only made one two-point basket in the first half of play, shooting 10-25 from long range to go ahead 32-22 at the break. During the second half, Northwestern cut the Jamestown lead down to two in the middle of the third quarter before strong defense and more hot shooting helped the Jimmies pull away from the #13 team in the country.
Jamestown was the more aggressive team all afternoon, finishing plus six in the offensive rebounding category and outscoring Northwestern 32-7 off the bench. Kia Tower and Madelyn Schmidt both ended the game with a team-high 12 points, and Hannah DeMars filled the stat sheet with seven points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.
Off the bench, Macy Savela dropped in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, and Sarah Lenz also had nine on 50% shooting from three. Megan Oswald had another nice game as well for Jamestown, scoring five points and recording two steals and two rebounds.
The Jimmies, now 16-8 overall on the year and 9-7 in the GPAC, have now won five games in a row. Jamestown heads to Mitchell, South Dakota on Wednesday for a midweek matchup against Dakota Wesleyan before returning to Newman Arena next Saturday to face Midland.
