ABERDEEN, S.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – Presentation College used a big second half comeback to defeat the Valley City State men’s basketball team on Friday night, 72-67.
It was a tale of two halves during the conference game in Aberdeen. The Vikings opened the game with a big first half, shooting 57 percent as they built a 40-24 lead at the break. The second half belonged to the home team though as Presentation College outscored the Vikings 48-27 over the final 20 minutes.
The Vikings drop to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College improves to 9-12 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The two teams have now split their season series with the Vikings winning just six days ago in Valley City.
On Friday in Aberdeen, Valley City State shot well, going 50 percent from the field (24-48), 50 percent on 3’s (9-18) and 83 percent on free throws (10-13). The Vikings were hampered though by 17 turnovers on the night – compared to just six by the Saints – which allowed Presentation College to attempt 14 more shots than the Vikings.
Presentation College shot 48 percent overall (30-62), 29 percent on 3’s (5-17) and 41 percent at the line (7-17).
VCSU senior Kevin Schramm made a pair of 3’s and shot 6-for-9 overall as he led the Vikings with 19 points and four rebounds. Eddie Oyet added 12 points and four rebounds, while Chris Thompson hd 11 points and five rebounds.
The Saints were led by 17 points off the bench by Dwight Felton, who also had three steals and four assists.
Up next: Valley City State will attempt to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Mayville State University. The women’s game starts at 3 p.m. and the men’s game will follow at approximately 5 p.m.
